Office:Mac 2008
Last week during Macworld Expo, we formally announced details about Magnesium. The real name will be Office 2008, and we're releasing it in the second half of this year. We shared some screenshots with the press, and ran demos in our booth. Our Office 2008 demos were always standing-room-only, and people seemed pretty excited about it.
I think that the Microsoft blog over at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer has the best collection of screenshots in one place: Friday photo gallery: Office 2008 for Mac preview. There's several other press stories out there, but I'll leave finding those as an exercise for the reader.
Of course, these are just screenshots, so there's a lot of detail that's missing. I'll be talking more about Office 2008 in the next few months as we get closer to its launch. I'll probably talk more about it in Mac Mojo.

This might be a dumb question, but I use Web Queries a LOT in excel. On the mac, they are clunky and a pain to use, but on the windows version they are point and click. Are Web Queries in office 2008 for mac now up to par, or should I forget about upgrading?Anonymous

Hey how about the Mac BU Woos? That way we can feel sorry for you, coz you're all such dedicated Mac developers that get treated like outcasts by the rest of MS - and even if you listen to what customers want, you can't deliver as you have to be dictated to by the Windows teams.... Yeah, I like sound of that, the Mac Bu Woos...Anonymous

Garry -- It's not a dumb question, but it's also one that I can't answer. I don't know the feature set of Excel 2008, and even if I did, I can't talk about specific features of the next version just yet. Asam -- Oh, you and your conspiracy theories are back. You still have no idea how MacBU works, and I really don't think that you care to find out because you enjoy your conspiracy theories too much.Anonymous

Are there any undocumented APIs used in the Windows version of Office which would give it a performance advantage compared to the Mac OS X version?Anonymous

First off, I'm really interested in the MyDay app. But Entourage 2008 will be useless to me if it doesn't improve Exchange support. Basically I need Entourage to sync FULLY with the exchange server so that I can access EVERYTHING regardless of whether I'm on my mac desktop, mac laptop, windows desktop or in webmail. Right now, my distribution groups, tasks and notes don't sync. I've tried project sharing, but I lose all my links to email from my tasks and the categories between machines. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make entourage sync fully with exchange and outlook!!
