How to listen to MSDN Webcasts on MP3 players - by Jeff Palermo
I'm getting caught up on my blog reading here at PDC and I found this one by Jeff Palermo. Jeff Palermo writes,
" For a while, MSDN Live Meeting webcasts had to be captured manually by something like NetTransport 2 . Now, Microsoft is offering a .wmv file download for offline viewing. Personally, I get more out of the audio, and I can listen on the way to/from work as well as while at the gym. My wife laughs about how "nerdy" I am because I have headphones at the gym while working out, and while folks think I"m listening to some motivating heavy metal, I'm listening to new and cool ways to use the .Net Framework!
I use Windows Media Encoder 9 to get pull out the audio stream and create a .wma file that can be listened to with any portable audio player. I use 1.25% time compression to shorten the time it takes to listen to the content. It makes the speaker talk faster, but it's still good. It can take out long pauses as well."
Great idea, Jeff! I'll try this out shortly myself.

I was doing something similar, I have an RCS Lyra whis can play audio and video. I really wanted to watch while on the stationary bike at the gym. I was disapointed I could not get the wmv to play (not supported). I also tried some conversion tools wmv->asf/mpeg they did not work ether (even tho they clame too) I suspect its something new in the latest wmv format. - Anonymous

Windows media encoder can also be used to convert the video to play on a PPC device. There is some size inflation, but I imagine I could find the right settings to match the slide show.
Maybe the PPC playable format can be posted like MSDN TV some time does. - Anonymous

Jeff - Do you have any process steps you can share for converting to PPC? If you know the settings for the slide show? it would be cool if we can figure this out. George - Anonymous
