Where do they get those names?

I've stayed out of the Windows Vista naming thingy, I figure that the name will grow on me.  But whatever you might think of Windows Vista, it's got to be better than:

Microsoft Windows Server Base Operating Systems Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager 2005

I apologize in advance to anyone on the MWSBOSMPfMOM team, I'm quite sure that it's a wonderful product (pack?) and is critical functionality, but surely Microsoft could have come up with a better name for that one :)

Sorry, I'm in spec purgatory today, and for some reason I felt like venting a bit :)

Edit: I've been informed by the MOM team that this is a poor example of a badly named product, since it's an add-on for a separate product (MOM 2K5).

So I'll pick on someone else instead: :)

    BOB wasn't needed thought..if you make everything too simple for the user then thats when we have to spend more time on security (IE,Windows) and less time coding features

    well atleast I hope that makes sense

    Can we all make a stand right here and right now to never, ever, ever call "Avalon" and "Indigo" "Windows Presentation Foundation" and "Windows Communication Framework" respectively?

    I mean, fair enough if Avalon and Indigo are just code-names, but come ON! The "official" names are horrible!!

    If all us developers stood together, there'd be nothing to stop us! :)

    I agree with you Dean, the code names distinguished the two technologies far apart as in "a" and "b" but the new Windows Presentation name here just makes it look like its "a" and "A"..

    Windows VII ;)..

    It does not take a long name to bad, of course. No one liked what they did to 'Internet Studio' when they made it VISUAL INTERDEV....

    Why Windows Presentation Foundation is better name than Avalon? While I like the Avalon name a lot, it just is shorter to always use WPF from now on than Avalon. And A is too short for TLA. And TLA's always make a good name!
