Surreal drive time

Every morning, I take Daniel to school.  He goes to school in Edmonds, which is about 20 minutes north of our home (and about 40 minutes from Microsoft).  It's an long-ish commute (7:30 to somewhere between 9:00 and 9:30) but it's worth it :).

So this morning, I'm driving up I-405 and I notice something moving near the windshield wipers in my car.  This isn't unusual, leaves sometimes get caught there.

We got to our exit and pulled off the highway onto city streets.

And then I saw the head pop up from under the top of my hood.  A little pointed nose sniffed the air and the mouse huddled down against the wind.

I pointed it out to Daniel and he indicated disbelief, until I pulled into his school and we popped the hood.

There he was, a field mouse sitting on top of the engine of my car.  I guess he realized it was warm last night and decided to bunk down for the night.

I went to get a cup to remove him, but by the time I got back to the car, he had disappeared.  I'm hoping he took the opportunity to run away, I'm sure I would.

Very wierd.  This is the first time this has ever happened to me :)

Cool story -- "Stuart Little goes to school"

You might want to keep an eye out for his buddies, though. They like to chew on hoses & wiring.

Hope there are some open areas where he got off the car...

See, now you have to put a cat in your catalytic converter to take care of the mice. Then you'll have to put a dog in your radiator to take care of the cat. Pretty soon you're driving around with an elephant and getting really bad gas mileage.

Scott, I drive a 6 year old Mercedes S500. I'm already driving an elephant.

Take care - a guy I know had $18,000 dollars worth of damage done to his car done by a family of mice who decided to nest in it, and chew through half the wiring while they were there.

I'll second the last comment. Here's a note from my wife.

"He better look for a nest. Jody's husband's Corvette became infested with mice and it cost quite a bit to get them all out and repair the damage. She said the mice are all coming from some new development out there on the plateau and they're a real nuisance."

Oh boy, this reminded me of one of my daughter's favourite books, If You Take a Mouse To School.

How lucky you were chosen to drive one of the Mouseketeers around! It's quite an honor, from what I'm told.

He was no doubt on a vital mission to your son's school. Did you happen to notice any mouseketeer weaponry on him?

You were lucky you didn't get an icky surprise instead of a cute one. As someone who has lived on a farm with lots of cats i can tell you that kittens like the warmth of engines :(
