OCS 2007 R2 Supportability Statement for Windows 2008 R2 Released

The following KB articles have been released addressing what steps need to be taken for support of LCS 2005 SP1, OCS 2007 and OCS 2007 R2 in a Windows 2008 R2 domain, as well as installing OCS 2007 R2 on a Windows 2008 R2 member server:

One item to take note of.  The following scenarios are currently not supported on a Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system:

  • Upgrading the operating system to Windows Server 2008 R2 for an existing installation of Office Communications Server 2007 R2 is not supported.
  • Office Communications Server 2007 R2 administration tools will only install in native 32-bit or native 64-bit mode. Because of an application compatibility issue with Windows Server 2008 R2, installing 32-bit Office Communications Server 2007 R2 administration tools on 64-bit Windows 2008 R2 operating system is not supported.
  • Development with Speech Server (2007) Developer Edition and deployment of the Speech Server 2007 role are not supported on Windows Server 2008 R2.

    @jose LCS 2005 was only supported on Windows 2003.  It was not tested, and therefore wouldn't be supported.

    Hello Doug, One question: Can I install a brand new server with Windows 2008 R2 and install LCS 2005 SP1? Is it compatible? Regards, Jose Oyervides

    Hi Doug - Do you know if OCS Server R1 will install on Windows 2008 R2 OS ? Ima looking at options to upgrade existing servers and its hard finding info.

    I don't believe OCS 2007 R1 was ever tested with Windows Server 2008 R2 and would therefore not be supported. At this point with OCS 2007 R1 out of Mainstream Support and Extended Support ending in 2018, I'd recommend looking at migrating to O365 or Skype for Business Server 2015.
