MSFT Email Culture

I'm taking an all day training class today on how to manage my inbox.  This might
have been useful 5 months ago.. we will see.  I do think it is a good concept
to teach MS employees how to handle the amount of email they get.  It is a totaly
system shock to learn how to deal with 300+ emails a day, with over 33% of those actionable,
it can be quite overwhelming.  More info later.

I missed the class (d'oh!) but Brian G. and some of the other guys filled me in on the tips they offer. Best takeaway I got was to keep messages OUT of your Inbox. Your inbox is simply a place to get messages to read - then, act in this order:1) If you can reply quickly (1-2 minutes) then do so.2) If it's actionable (requires you do something) then right-click drag it onto your Tasks. You will be prompted to create a new task and make it an attachment. (You can also do this to the Calendar as well). Schedule the task.3) File other stuff you need to keep into folders (maybe related to projects, DL's you are on, and the like). Note that you may want to file stuff from steps 1 and 2 above as well.
