ASP.NET 2.0 Directory Name Changes

There has been a lot of discussion around the special directory name changes for ASP.NET 2.0 -- I just posted to the forums with an explanation and a call for feedback.  Check out the post here and let us know what you think so that we can evaluate possible changes before Beta2/RTM.

    UGLY! Absolutely UGLY. Especially changing /bin which is nice, short, and to the point.

    I HATE the new names. I mean REALLY hate them.


    If name collisions are an issue then make the folder names configurable from web.config, except maybe /bin says the same as it is now.

    Then the user can reconfigure /themes to be any specific thing he likes if it conflicts with an existing application.

    This reminds me of the way Microsoft "simplified" the home directory name to "Documents and Settings", instead of the "much less friendly" names of home or usr (as in Unix). This has caused a lot of trouble for tech support people because of the spaces.

    You need to consider who the names are for - they are for developers, and these developers are all familier with the name "bin", and have been since the days of MSDOS. It makes no sense to change it.

    Who exactly are we trying to impress by making these longer and "friendlier" names?
