Now Available: Disaster Recovery in SMB (On Azure Open License)

I’m excited to announce that Azure Disaster Recovery is now available in the SMB space and on the local Australian Datacentre.  Microsoft has removed the requirement for System Centre or System Centre Virtual Machine Manager which opens up more services opportunities for our SMB partners.  We’ve been highlighting three key SMB scenarios with our channel..  we can now add Disaster Recovery as the fourth key SMB scenario.  There is no better time to sell Azure in Open Licensing!

 

What is Microsoft Azure Site Recovery

With Microsoft Azure Site Recovery, partners can offer customers a much-needed “insurance policy” for business continuity by delivering Disaster Recovery as a service—without having to build your own infrastructure. You can use Azure as your Disaster Recovery site and rest assured that your customers’ replicated systems are backed up in the same Australian geo-redundant, enterprise-grade infrastructure.

Open the door to new services

Selling disaster recovery opens the door to a set of new services. Leveraging customisable recovery plans, you can consult with your customer on business continuity, offering them the peace of mind that they have a plan in place to get back online in the event of disaster. Azure Site Recovery also offers ongoing recovery plan testing with no impact or interruptions to your customer’s operations. Providing regular reports to you customer on recovery testing is a great way to create continuous customer touch points and add value to your DR service. Ultimately, what all of this means if that you can focus more on delivering profitable services to your customers and less time and money building and maintaining infrastructure.

 

How it works

On the customer’s on-premises server, technology built-in to Windows Server 2012 R2 (Hyper-V Replica) automatically replicates your customer’s virtual machine—including all of their applications and data—to a virtual server hosted on Microsoft Azure. Changes made to the on-premises virtual machines are replicated at an interval you choose, which can be 15 minutes, 5 minutes, or 30 seconds. So you have the flexibility to choose how often you need to replicate depending on the workloads. Azure Site Recovery hosts the replica and handles a range of services like communications between on-prem and cloud environments, remote health monitoring, recovery testing, and orchestrating the recovery when the time comes for failover.
