    Very nice.  Where can this be discussed and problems reported?

    Because it was on my mind (I need to go find a copy at U-dub after tax week), I did a search for |McCracken "Digital Computer Programming"

    Google Scholar found citations to the book and much more, about 3 pages worth.  MSN, er, Windows Live Academic found two entries, all in Alan Blackwell papers.  The second one intrigued me but the link is to a PDF that is in a paid-subscription repository.  This was also true of one of the Google Scholar hits.  So I had to go over to the IEEE Computer Society Digital Library and look up the Blackwell paper on First Steps in Programming there.  Fortunately those searches found abstracts with downloadable PDFs, and I could download those as a subscriber to that Digital Library (and did).  I also downloaded other finds that Google Scholar gave me.

    So, three observations:

    1. As a scholar, a search will often turn into a basis for exploration and serendipity.  The current WL Academic doesn't seem to encourage that yet.

    2. I hate people giving me PDF links that I might not be able to use, and that I can't find out more about without downloading the thing.  Links to abstract pages are that then link to the object are far more useful.  They can also help find a new route to the material if the offered one is locked up.

    3. The claim that WL Academic is "deep" with respect to Computer Science does not stand up under the simplest scrutiny.  Maybe that should be described as an intention, not as an accomplished fact at this point.
