Chevron Aims to Accelerate Production and Reduce Downtime with New Business Intelligence Platform, Providing Consistent, Available Data in Real Time
Chevron is the second-largest integrated energy company in the United States and one of the largest in the world, based on market capitalization, as of December 31, 2004. Chevron has proven reserves of 8.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent, daily production in excess of 2.5 million barrels of oil equivalent, and owns interests in chemicals and power production businesses. The challenge facing the main players in the oil industry today, is to service the rapid growth in demand by increasing productivity in both upstream and downstream activities, without losing sight of wider goals, including safety, and overall corporate responsibility. The drive towards operational excellence lies at the heart of Chevron’s overall business strategy. The organization constantly evaluates and refines the business processes that connect people, information, and assets. However, recent analysis suggests that the current processes that support data capture and reporting on key information are not able to maximize employee productivity, a result of which is duplication of effort, and lack of effective data management and transparency. The project was to implement a real-time IT infrastructure that delivers a current, accurate view across business operations.
Reed Executive plc - Leading Recruitment Company Supports Job Seekers with New Database Technology
The online presence of Reed Executive (www.reed.co.uk) attracts millions of visitors each week. However, the technology that supported it was struggling with the increased load these additional visitors were placing on it. Working closely with Microsoft and Microsoft® Gold Certified Partner Attenda, Reed conducted a benchmarking exercise to compare Microsoft SQL Server ™ 2000, running on Microsoft Windows® 2000 Server, MySQL running on Windows 2000 Server, and MySQL running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server. After ruling out MySQL and Red Hat, the company compared SQL Server 2000 and Microsoft SQL Server™ 2005, ultimately deciding on the latter. The new database infrastructure has reduced total cost of ownership, increased search performance, and enhanced system scalability.

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver 1.1
In its continued commitment to interoperability, Microsoft provides a Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) driver for use with SQL Server 2005. The SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver is available to all SQL Server users at no additional charge, and provides access to SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 from any Java application, application server, or Java-enabled applet. This driver is a Type 4 JDBC driver that provides database connectivity through the standard JDBC application program interfaces (APIs) available in J2EE (Java2 Enterprise Edition). SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver 1.1 is JDBC 3.0 compliant and runs on the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.4 and later versions. It has been tested against all major application servers, including BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, JBoss, and Sun. This latest version of the JDBC driver includes support for integrated authentication and database mirroring and a number of performance enhancements. In addition, this release includes an expanded help system that has sample applications to help you learn how to use the driver with a SQL Server 2005 database.
Note The JDBC driver is designed to work on any operating system that supports the use of a Java Virtual Machine (JVM). However, only Sun Solaris, Red Hat Linux, and Windows 2000 or later operating systems are officially supported.
