View Version Control File and Folder Properties

Team Foundation version control properties include general file and folder information, pending check-in status, security information, and branching history.

Note

Team Foundation version control properties are not viewed in Visual Studio's Properties Window. They are viewed in their own Properties dialog box, as described in the following procedure.

Required Permissions

To perform these procedures, you must have the Read permission set to Allow. For more information, see Team Foundation Server Permissions.

To view version control item properties

  1. To open Source Control Explorer, on the View menu, click Other Windows and then click Source Control Explorer.

  2. In Source Control Explorer, click the Workspaces drop-down list box in the toolbar, and select the workspace that you want to use.

    The local path for the workspace is listed on the top of the right pane of Source Control Explorer.

  3. Go to the local path of a folder or file that you want to view the properties on, right-click, and click Properties.

  4. In the Properties dialog box, you can view properties contained in the following tabs:

    • General   Contains the Name of the file or folder, and the Encoding used for the file (for example, utf-8). For more information about how to configure the encoding, see Configure Version Control File Encoding.

    • Status   Displays any pending changes associated with the item.

    • Security   Lists the Users, Groups, and Permissions associated with the item. For more information, see Control Access to Team Foundation Version Control.

    • Branches   If applicable, lists the branches that the file was branched from.

  5. Click OK.
