How to: Upgrade a Project from Visual Basic 6.0

Visual Studio 2010 does not provide tools for upgrading applications and projects from Visual Basic 6.0. If you want to upgrade your project from Visual Basic 6.0 to Visual Basic 2010, you can use the upgrade tools provided with earlier versions of Visual Studio and then upgrade the project again in Visual Studio 2010.

To upgrade a Visual Basic 6.0 project to the current version of Visual Basic

  1. Open Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. You can download it at no cost from Download: Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Express Editions with SP1.

    Note

If you have Visual Studio 2008 installed, you can use it instead.

  2. Upgrade your project by using tools from Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. For more information, see Upgrading from Visual Basic 6.0.

  3. Close Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition.

  4. Start Visual Studio 2010.

  5. Use Visual Studio 2010 to upgrade your project. For more information, see How to: Upgrade Projects Created in Earlier Versions of Visual Studio.
