VHD Test Drive Details

Wow, it is amazing to see how well this program is accepted by costumers and by Microsoft partners. Impressive download numbers for the freely available images from the VHD Download Center. It looks like the team is drowning in questions and requests for the license agreement. We should make it available online. The PressPass article Businesses get an "Easy Button" for mainstream software evaluation with Microsoft VHD Test Drive Program has a bit of an FAQ section.

A few words about the different download options:

  • Customers can just go to the download center and pick any of the available images and try them for 30 days.
  • TechNet or MSDN subscribers go to the subscriber download section and download the images from there. TechNet and MSDN subscription license terms apply.
  • Partners wanting to add their solutions will be able to download the appropriate images from Microsoft Connect (available soon). These images will contain additional information about how to prepare the images for redistribution and an end user license agreement (EULA).
Note: The freely available images from the VHD Download Center are not meant to be used for redistribution. To access the images on connect.microsoft.com partners provide Microsoft the name and contact information (email, phone, address) of a single primary responsible person for downloading the images from Microsoft Connect. We will generate a user id that must be used together with a valid Passport account to gain access to the images.
More partner information is available on the program website or via vhdinfo@microsoft.com.

This is really awesome. For someone trying to learn new technologies like Exchange, ISA etc (previously not possible unless you had access to all these products) it is a great opportunity. My question is can I download the image multiple times just in case I need a little extra time than a month? Thanks once again for this.

I'm happy to see that there is a great thing is going on... Already have signed me agreement and waiting for feedback.  ;) I will use this feature to give customers the chance to test our very complex software  without the need of a visit and installation on a Windows trial version. Michael

Many customers of mine asked if there's any chance to transform their .vmdk images to .vhd. Any info welcome!
