Gmail vs. Exchange
My wife just started a small business, so I bought a 100 email addresses (20 GB each), a domain name and basic web hosting for about $40 a year. Full Outlook integration via POP or IMAP. Why should I use ad prone Google instead? Microsoft Live offers at least a domain name.
Further I believe while it is cool to have a gmail account today, even for Entrepreneurs, these days will soon be over and people will want their on domain name email.
Some of us will be lucky and have an email address matching their name like robertscoble@gmail.com or volkerwill@gmail.com or alike. You get the idea. What about the 233,756th John Stevens? Will he be JohnS233243@gmail.com account look?
BTW, I read your blog more often now that you left. Keep it up!

Naive question -- can you use a mobile device (i.e. PocketPC, SmartPhone) to read emails too? - Anonymous

BlakeHandler - you're of course right. Even though I use OWA on my Smartphone to read email. The post was meant as a response to Scoble's post: http://scobleizer.wordpress.com/2006/07/17/wanting-to-use-dead-office-and-why-were-not/ - Anonymous

Your argument for domain names doesn't hold. What about the 233,756th John Stevens? Will you email him at info@johnstevens233243.com?

Volker, Gmail has domain names. My email address is robert@podtech.net.
Cell phone integration? Not as nice as Microsoft's stuff -- yet. I'll try that out over the next few days and get back to you. - Anonymous

Maybe it's a stupid question but where did you get all this for $40? - Anonymous
