PDC05: Tips and Tricks for the PDC Bits

I've been collating a few notes on installing the PDC05 "The Goods" discs that were distributed to attendees. Hopefully these tips will help get you started. I'll be updating this list based on reader comments or as new issues are discovered.

    Any advice for the 5219 product key from the dvd's at PDC not being accepted?

    The activation key that is in the book does not seem to work, not a zero/O problem. Don't know if anybody else is having this problem. I am trying to install within VPC using Nero ImageDrive to mount the ISO.

    The booklet gives the same key for both Vista Beta 1 and Vista CTP, but it doesn't work for Beta 1 (I haven't tried the CTP yet). Am I doing something wrong?

    The key in the booklet worked for the CTP. I noticed in the file dates that Beta 1 is dated 7/222005 while the CTP is dated 9/2/2005. I assumed the Beta 1 was released after the CTP, which is why I tried to install it first.

    Made the mistake of installing VS2005 RC1. Then I found out I should use Beta2 with Sept CTP of .NET. So I unintalled RC1, but now I cannot install beta2 and machine is not working well either. No love for me.

    It doesn't appear that the <http://commnet.microsoftpdc.com/content/vmadditions.zip> link works at 4:37pm ET on 21 September 2005. I really like the idea of the additions -- is there another link?
