Windows Server Virtualization Calculator

We've just released an online calculator to assess Operating System licensing costs for virtualisation. 

This covers the OS licensing for Host OS and for the VM’s. It DOES NOT cover licensing for application such as SQL\Biztalk etc within the VM’s.

For example, if you need to host 1000 VM’s using 25 4-Processor Servers each running 40 VM’s you can calculate the cost difference between using Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition as the Host OS or Windows Server 2003 R2 Datacenter Edition.  You can select both the edition of Windows used to Host the VM’s and customise the pricing of Windows to match your own costs.

For many scenarios, the recently available Unlimited Virtualisation Rights with Windows Server 2003 R2 Datacenter edition  makes it a more cost effective platform to provide a virtualisation service that Windows Server 2003 Standard or Enterprise Edition. 

NOTE:
1) Remember, Windows Server 2003 R2 Datacenter Edition is available now on Volume License. It is now  NO LONGER an OEM ONLY offering, though this channel is still available to customers
2) Please bear in mind that this calculator is EQUALLY as applicable to VMWARE customers as it is to Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 customers
