XPMode on machines that don’t support Hardware Virtualization

If you have played around with XPMode on Windows 7, then you will know that you needed support for hardware virtualization to run it… This was a barrier for some where you got an error message like this:

Unable to start Windows Virtual PC because hardware-assisted virtualization is disabled

What many of you may have found is that while the hardware supported Virtualization, it was not turned on in the BIOS. There is a tool here: Download the Microsoft hardware-assisted virtualization detection tool that can help determine this.

The good news for those that have machines that do not support hardware virtualization is that an update within the following KB article that allows you to remove the required for hardware virtualization support: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/977206

Important We recommend that you install this update only if your processor does not support the HAV feature.

Enjoy!
