Notes

  • To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as a member of the Domain Administrators security group, the Enterprise Administrators security group, or the Group Policy Creator Owners security group.

  • To open Group Policy Object Editor, see Related Topics.

  • In Group Policy Object Editor, there are two Administrative Templates branches. Settings for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE are under Computer Configuration, and settings for HKEY_CURRENT_USER are under User Configuration.

  • If computer policy conflicts with user policy, computer policy generally takes precedence. Application authors can disregard that convention, however, and if they do, Group Policy cannot enforce it.

  • The Extended tab feature displays the text that explains the policy setting and indicates which versions of Windows are supported as clients for the setting. If you prefer a view of the policy setting without the explanatory text, click the Standard tab.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
