Set an application directory partition reference domain

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To set an application directory partition reference domain

Open Command Prompt.
Type:

ntdsutil
At the ntdsutil command, type:

domain management
At the domain management command, type:

connection
At the connection command, type:

connect to server DomainController
At the connection command, type:

quit
At the domain management command, type:

set nc reference domain ApplicationDirectoryPartition ReferenceDomain

Value	Description
DomainController	The DNS name of the domain controller on which the application directory partition resides.
ApplicationDirectoryPartition	The distinguished name of the application directory partition for which you want to set the reference domain. For example, the distinguished name of the application directory partition test.microsoft.com is dc=test, dc=microsoft, dc=com.
ReferenceDomain	The distinguished name of the domain that you want to be the reference domain for this application directory partition.

Notes

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Domain Admins group or the Enterprise Admins group in Active Directory, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure. For more information, see Default local groups, Default groups, and Using Run as.
To open a command prompt, click Start, point to All programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command prompt.
