Sample: Create, retrieve, update, and delete using the OData endpoint with JavaScript

Applies To: Dynamics CRM 2015

This sample code is for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015 and Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online 2015 Update. Download the Microsoft Dynamics CRM SDK package. It can be found in the following location in the download package:

SampleCode\JS\RESTEndpoint\JavaScriptRESTDataOperations

If you just want to see how this sample works you can install (import) the JavaScriptRESTDataOperations_1_0_0_1_managed.zip managed solution included in the download files. After you install this managed solution, view the solution configuration page to observe the actions performed.

If you install this managed solution and want to create the web resources using the names in this topic, your solution publisher customization prefix cannot be “sample” unless you uninstall (delete) the managed solution.

Requirements

This sample uses the following web resources:

  • sample_/JavaScriptRESTDataOperationsSample.htm
An HTML page that contains the UI elements for this sample.

  • sample_/Scripts/JavaScriptRESTDataOperationsSample
A library that contains functions to manage the UI elements on the page and includes the actions performed by the sample.

  • sample_/Scripts/SDK.REST.js
A reusable, generic library that simplifies asynchronous data operations using the REST Endpoint for web resources.

Note

The customization prefix “sample_” is not used in code. These samples will work using the customization prefix from any publisher. However, the relative path of the simulated Scripts folder must be included in the name of the web resources.

Demonstrates

This sample:

  • Shows how to perform the most basic data operations using the REST endpoint and JavaScript.

  • Uses the XMLHttpRequest object included with browsers supported by Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015 and Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online 2015 Update.

  • Sequentially executes the operations on a new account record. When you run the sample you will have the choice to delete the record that you created.

  • Displays the results similar to the following when you preview the sample_/JavaScriptRESTDataOperationsSample.htm web resource:

Setting the primary contact to: <the full name of the first Contact record in your system>.

Setting Preferred Contact Method to E-mail.

Setting Annual Revenue to Two Million .

Setting Contact Method Phone to "Do Not Allow".

The account named "Test Account Name" was created with the AccountId : "7780cef2-fdf4-e011-9d26-00155dba3819".

Retrieving account with the AccountId: "7780cef2-fdf4-e011-9d26-00155dba3819".

Retrieved the account named "Test Account Name". This account was created on : "Wed Oct 12 11:13:56 PDT 2011".

Changing the account Name to "Updated Account Name".

    Adding Address information

    Setting E-Mail address

The account record changes were saved

You chose to delete the account record.

    The account was deleted.

sample_/Scripts/SDK.REST.js

This library contains public methods for the following operations:

  • SDK.REST.createRecord

  • SDK.REST.retrieveRecord

  • SDK.REST.updateRecord

  • SDK.REST.deleteRecord

  • SDK.REST.retrieveMultipleRecords

  • SDK.REST.associateRecords

  • SDK.REST.disassociateRecords

Each of these methods includes a successCallback and errorCallback parameter. These parameters accept a reference to a function that will be called when the data operation succeeds or fails. For examples that use the SDK.REST.associateRecords and SDK.REST.disassociateRecords methods, see Sample: Associate and disassociate records using the OData endpoint with JavaScript.
