How to Change a Profile Definition

You can change the display name and description of a profile definition, and change the custom attributes.

When modifying the profile schema, realize that the display names shown in the user interface are not based on the profile definition, but are based instead on the presentation XML. The display names are intended to be localizable and the profile definition information is not. The presentation information is not tied to changes in the database. You have to make any changes in property display names (localizable or otherwise) in the presentation file. |
To change a profile definition
Expand Commerce Server Manager, expand Global Resources, expand Profiles, expand Profile Catalog, expand Profile Definitions, right-click the profile definition you want to change, and then click Properties.
In the <profile definition> Properties dialog box, on the General tab, do the following:

Display Name
Change the name for the profile definition. The display name can contain a maximum of 127 Unicode characters.
Description
Change the description for the profile definition. The description can contain a maximum of 127 Unicode characters.
On the Custom Attributes tab, do the following:

New
Click to open the Custom Attribute dialog box and add a new custom attribute.
Edit
Click to open the Custom Attribute dialog box and edit the specified custom attribute.
Delete
Click to delete the selected custom attribute.
In the Custom Attributes dialog box, do the following:

Display Name
Type the name that you want displayed or edit the name for the attribute. The display name can contain a maximum of 127 Unicode characters.
Description
Type or edit the description for the attribute. The description can contain a maximum of 127 Unicode characters.
Value
Type or change the value of the attribute.
You can change the display name of a profile definition; however, you cannot change the programmatic name of a profile definition.
To save the changes and return to the Properties dialog box, click OK.
To save your changes and return to Commerce Server Manager, click Apply, and then click OK.
The profile definition is saved with the changes.
