WS2008 RTM and your certifications

Hi. You probably already heard the update on WS2008 release to manufacturing (RTM) , now scheduled for 1st quarter of 2008 instead of end of year 2007. As a result...

  1. The transition exams 70-648 and 70-649 will be available on October 29, 2007, now. They were scheduled for September 20, but the changes/slip in technology mean some items on our exams are affected, too.
  2. If you took the beta for either of these exams (71-648 or 71-649), your result should be available no later than October 29 (or a few weeks before).
  3. The MCTS exams are still scheduled for RTM +30 days; the MCITP exams are still scheduled for RTM +60. Don't know what I'm talking about? Read about the WS2008 certification family.

I have a couple of questions about the 70-621 exam based on comments I have seen on a couple of discussion boards. If a person has the MSDST and then passes the 70-621 exam, do they earn the MCTS:Vista along with the MCITP:EST, or just the MCITP:EST? If a person has the MSDST and then completes the 70-621, does that cover the client portion of the MCITP:EA or do they need to go back and take the 70-620 exam? Thanks

Passing 70-621 earns you both the MCTS: Configuration and MCITP: Enterprise. And yes, although you have earned your MCTS: Configuration you must satify your client side portion by passing the 70-620 exam.

Just out of curiosity, how can the transition exams be available so far in advance of RTM?

Mike, the exams are based on pre-release bits. We always hear from customers/product groups that we need to have something ready for the advanced-type early adopters to get going right away. We will refresh those exams after RTM if any tweaking needs to be done. BT, I think a message will go out about that soon - we are holding on to the code until the exams are available so you can use it right away (now October 29). contentiousD, unlikely. I know they are in consideration (TK for 648 and 649) but not confirmed (i.e. budget/resources for those has not been locked down, no guarantee they'll happen. If they do happen, it will be in 2008 some time.
