That Minority Report UI…sooner than you think?

I was fortunate enough to see a great presentation by Mary Ann De Lares Norris of Oblong at Thinking Digital recently. This TED video shows John Underkoffler in full flow demonstrating their g-speak interface (aka the Minority Report UI).

Some of the demo is pretty esoteric and gratuitous (IMHO) though still very cool. Nevertheless, John has a lot of interesting stuff to share…he talks about a future where our machines are aiding us and with the hardware we have available, literally at our fingertips, the UI for computing is up for radical change. Sure, we have seen single and multitouch in things like the iPhone, iPad and Surface but to be pithy about it, that really is just scratching the surface.

John thinks in 5 years time when you buy a computer you’ll just get this technology. I think it may sooner and it’s no coincidence that Chris Anderson talks about games as the first killer app for this type of UI during his Q&A. I’ve seen something like that around these parts…soon soon Winking smile
