This interweb thing is confusing!

Not to sound like an old-timer, but I just don't get this internet thing. My knowledge of html and the world wide web begins in 1995, back when I was first creating personal web pages in college (which later got moved to Wisconsin. I no longer update anything there, but feel free to check it out). I thought having a repeating background image was the bee's knees. I had played around with HoTMetaL, but decided a simple text editor was all I really needed to edit web pages. Helllloooo, pico!

I remember having what I thought was a great idea back in graduate school (1998 or so): it would be great to have some sort of online journal that I could use to record my thoughts and and what I did that day. I was going to call it a "web journal" or "bjournal" for short. Then I thought it would be even cooler if there was some sort of cookie-cutter template that other people (mom and dad) could use to also create there own bjournals. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized it would never catch on. Why would I go through all of that effort when I could just add my entries to a Word doc? Sure, no one else could see it, but why would anyone want to read what I had to say?

So, what is the point of all this? Well, I just took a closer look at my last couple of entries, and I noticed that there was no word-wrap for all of the items I had inside of the <pre> tags. Of course, that wasn't unexpected. What was unexpected was that there was no horizontal scroll bar that a person could grab so that you could actually view the full lines. So my posts were even more pointless! I have tried to see if any of the skins I have to choose from would automatically take care of this for me, but they don't. I guess this means that I will have to figure it all out on my own. Unfortunately, I'm still stuck in 1995, and have no idea what is going on in these web pages anymore. CSS, RSS, js: when did the web get so complicated?

One thing I have figured out (I think: we'll see for sure in about 15 minutes) is how to add attachments to my entries. So, I'll start attaching my VS solutions at the end of the blog posts so that anyone really interested can play along at home. Originally, I was going to wait until the next round of content, but this whole issue forced me to move it up. Plus, I'm still trying to figure out what the next topic is going to be.

So, here are the 2 projects I have worked on thus far. Enjoy!

Your college website site looks like it's from 1985 not 1995.
