How Important is Green IT?

As recently seen in Computerworld, Gartner has put “green it” at the top of the list of strategic technologies for next year.  We see a growing demand for information and solutions to help companies reduce energy consumption, do more with less energy, improve data center energy efficiency and in general, reduce costs.  Following are a few resources you may find interesting as you research Green IT trends and solutions for your company and your customers.

  • In the October issue of TechNet magazine, Microsoft explores the topic of Green and how this concept is impacting the way companies are thinking about data centers and ways to save energy and reduce costs.  If you’re managing a data center, you may find the information in this article helpful.
  • Microsoft is running a contest and program called The Ingenuity Point. The Ingenuity Point is a way that Microsoft is recognizing and celebrating ISVs that are making a difference in the world with their Environmental or Clean Technology solutions, as well as Healthcare and Education.  If you’re an ISV developing innovative solutions for one or more of these verticals, we invite you to submit your application to www.theIngenuityPoint.com.  The first phase of the contest ends October 31, 2007, so submit today so you don’t miss your opportunity to be recognized.
  • The World’s Premier Student Technology Competition - The Imagine Cup is one way Microsoft is encouraging young people to apply their imagination, their passion and their creativity to technology innovations that can make a difference in the world – today. Now in its sixth year, the Imagine Cup has grown to be a truly global competition focused on finding solutions to real world issues.  The 2008 Theme is The Environment.  It’s going to be exciting and inspiring to see the innovations that students come up with this year.

We’re interested in hearing from ISVs about what’s top of mind as you consider Green IT solutions.  Please write to let us know what you want from Microsoft.

Cheers,

Your Microsoft ISV Team
