From the Wrigley Institute of Science:

No chewing gum in class? A study by Baylor College of Medicine showed that students who chewed gum showed an increase in standardized math test scores and their final grades were better comparedto those who didn't chew gum. Go figure.

Bodega’s in NYC will hold your cell phone for $3 a day while you’re in school:

Purportedly to reduce violence in schools, NYC has banned cell phones from public schools for about a year now. Lots of interesting thoughts on effective use of cell phones in the classroom (twitter, google sms?) around the web, including here.
