WSS 3.0: Getting "No SharePoint Site exists at the specified URL" - Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for SharePoint

Getting the following error when I deploy my webpart by using Visual Studio 2005 extensions for SharePoint

Error Message : "No SharePoint Site exists at the specified URL"

In default, VS 2005 extensions using the default port 80 to deploy the webpart. If you created your webapplication/sharepoint top level website other than the default port, you will get the error message. To resolve this, In Visual Studio 2005, goto "Project -> <Project>properties -> Debug option, change the start browser with URL to point your sharepoint website.

My issue was user error. I had two projects in my solution that were SharePoint projects and I rebuilt my site with a new domain name. I changed the properties on one of the projects, but not the other so when I thought it was error having to do with the project I was editing it was actually having an issue with the other project in the solution. Maybe your answer is as easy as mine...

i was also having this issue on a site that had windows authentication with a custom asp.net provider enabled. I extended the site to another web/port and enabled forms authentication on that site and it worked fine.

Hi Guys, I've been having similar issues, but came across this blog entry which may be of interest. . . it seems that having a period / dot in the URL causes issues. http://blogs.msdn.com/kaevans/archive/2009/02/02/getting-started-with-visual-studio-extensions-for-windows-sharepoint-services-1-3-vsewss.aspx Hope that helps, JB

The main solution did not despite trying many permutations of the URK for the site ("No sharepoint site found at this URL.") John bevan your solution does not work either.
