Standalone Team Explorer 2008 download available

For folks that need to install Team Explorer 2008, there's a separate download available here: Download Visual Studio Team Explorer 2008

Having the Team Explorer doesn't alleviate the need to also have a TFS Client Access License (CAL) except when using TFS Workgroup (5 user limit), accessing Codeplex or when only filing a bug

If you have Team System role SKU or TFS, you can also find the Team Explorer 2008 installer on X:\TFC\ on the installation media.

When installing the ISO and the install gets to the Team Explorer portion, I receive an error that the file CQconverter.exe can not be found on the image.  Is there any news that this file is missing from the install or do I have something other going on? Thanks

Kevin - of many, many installs of Team Explorer that we've done, I don't think we've ever seen this specific issue.  In similar cases, the root cause has been a corrupted ISO image.  Would you mind redownloading the image and trying again?  If that still doesn't work, we'll certainly continue to help you get to the bottom of the issue. Thanks, jeff

Is there a standalone team explorer application?   I would like to be able to maintain some files within TFS that don't have anything to do with Visual Studio.  Essentially what I am looking for is the equivalent of the SourceSafe application.

Arno - perhaps I'm not understanding your question correctly, but I believe this release of Team Explorer should meet your needs. Once installed, you can use TFS source control to save any types of files you like, not just those associated with Visual Studio solutions. Please let me know if I haven't fully answered (or understood) your question. Jeff

I just got the same problem as Kevin, with the same file said to be missing.  The file is there, but if I run it it says it's not a valid win32 application.  Going to try re-downloading the iso again.
