Vista Beta Testers get a free copy of Ultimate

The blogosphere was recently alight with the news that beta testers would receive a free copy of Vista Ultimate Edition as a thanks for testing out the product.

There was also much speculation as to who was eligible for this and why.  I checked in with Paul Donnelly who is the test manager for Windows and here's the bottom line on who's getting what:

"We gave away a single copy of Ultimate to all invited technical beta participants that filed at least one bug.  This was a “thank you” for active participation.  There was no requirement that people filed bugs and other forms of feedback were welcome but the people who went beyond those and filed a bug are being rewarded with a copy.

This is not to be confused with people on the CPP etc, this is beta program participants only."

Hope this clears up the speculation, and once again thank you for helping us to make this such a fantastic product.

    "This was a “thank you” for active participation. " "and once again thank you for helping us to make this such a fantastic product." Looks like Microsoft is polishing their brand image. How about people who contributed more than one bug but were not on the technical beta?

    Now I'm even more bummed that I never got invited in.  Ever since I beta tested Win98 I've gotten an invitation to every desktop OS beta up until Vista.  I never got an invite and couldn't find any info on how to apply to the official beta.  :(

    I have had windows vista beta for about three months now and have filed at least three bugs and have not recieved any notification of this giveaway for a free vista copy and would like to know what was needed to be done for this information to be sent to me. I just happen to be at at a windows vista demo on the 16th in Orlando when Microsoft sent its its truck around to present Vista to retailers in the area and they mentioned this giveaway to us and thus is why I am requesting more info on this matter.
