Security Center in Vista can be disabled

We released some code on Monday that will allow Vista's Security Center to be disabled and be replaced by third party security management control panels.  It's what Symantec and McAfee have been asking for.

All's fair in love and war, especially when you are trying to do the right thing for the customer - and because they've been saying that this move is the best thing for the customer, I would expect Symantec and McAfee to provide similar APIs into their Security Consoles for third parties to plug into.

So will the arguments they've been making about Vista and Security Center influence their own product design?  Only time will tell.

Hi Dani, Remember that Security Center is just a wholistic view of all your security applications.  Check out my post here for a full definition: http://blogs.technet.com/james/archive/2006/10/19/vista-kernal-patch-protection-and-security-center-faq.aspx Cheers James

Hi, Isn't that insecure? I mean, if Microsoft is providing an interface to disable the security console, can't malware call that same function to disable it? Then, what the heck good is it for if it can be disabled automatically? Or am I just the only one thinking about this...
