Partner Vista RTM Availability

Windows Vista Release To Manufacture (RTM) Accessibility for partners

Unlike the Release candidate versions of Windows Vista that were designed for partners and customers to evaluate, test and demonstrate on a very broad basis, The RTM version marks the culmination of the beta process and the point at which we distribute the finished product to OEM partners for pre-installation.

As such Microsoft needs to act responsibly to protect our own IP rights around Windows Vista. Consequently, the guidelines for RTM code distribution are more stringent than has been the case for the Release Candidate builds.

Here is the RTM information for partners:

Before General Availability (Jan 2007)

  1. Partners currently subscribing to MSDN or Technet are able to download RTM “bits” with a license to test design and develop.
    • If you don't subscribe to MSDN/Technet there are two options:
      • You can get a MSDN subscription HERE
      • Internal Microsoft teams can sponsor customers/partners for MSDN subscription, see HERE for details
  2. If your are an ISV, Empower for ISV’s entitles you to receive one MSDN Premium Subscription Media Kit and five user licenses. See HERE for details.
  3. Distribution details around RTM for TAP customers/partners to follow

After General Availability (i.e. Feb 2007)

There will be a time-bombed evaluation SKU for order (Windows Vista Enterprise) to distribute broadly as needed to the field and customers.
