MOSS 2007 SP3 & the message "the expected version of the product was not found on the system"

Hi!!

If you have Service Pack 3 for SharePoint Server 2007 installed, and you try to install this cumulative update package, you may encounter an error that states that "the expected version of the product was not found on the system." If this issue occurs, run the package executable (.exe) file at a command prompt and set the PACKAGE.BYPASS.DETECTION.CHECK=1 switch to the following setting.

For x86: "office-kb2596986-fullfile-x86-glb.exe PACKAGE.BYPASS.DETECTION.CHECK=1"

For x64: "office-kb2596986-fullfile-x64-glb.exe PACKAGE.BYPASS.DETECTION.CHECK=1"

THX!!

Kind Regards.

Hi Hector,Kindly confirm me if we bypass the detection check, is there any SharePoint functionalities impact in future.I am facing the same problem while installing February CU 2011 in MOSS 2007 x64 with SP2 environment. Most of all the blogs saying it will happens when discrepancies with language packs service packs levels. But our case everything is updated only even though we are facing the issue during MOSS CU installation time but WSS CU was installed successfully. Thanks,Saravanan

I tried the above, running from command prompt As an Admin,It did thing and gave message "Installation successful" but nothing really happened. My office 2010 is still without SP1. Its version is 14.0.4734.1000 that should have changed to 14.0.6029.1000 if SP1 was installed. What should I do?Thanks.--Rawat
