Unlink a Group Policy object from a site, domain, or organizational unit

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To unlink a Group Policy object from a site, domain, or organizational unit

Do one of the following:
- To unlink a Group Policy object from a domain or organizational unit, open Active Directory Users and Computers.
- To unlink a Group Policy object from a site, open Active Directory Sites and Services.
In the console tree, right-click the site, domain, or organizational unit from which you want to unlink the Group Policy object.
Click Properties, and then click the Group Policy tab.
Click the Group Policy object that you want to unlink, and then click Delete.
In the Delete dialog box, click Remove the link from the list, and then click OK.

Important

If you click Remove the link and delete the Group Policy object permanently in the Delete dialog box, all sites, domains, and organizational units to which the Group Policy object is linked will no longer have those Group Policy settings applied to them, and the Group Policy object will be deleted.

Notes

To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as a member of the Domain Administrators security group, the Enterprise Administrators security group, or the Group Policy Creator Owners security group.
To open Active Directory Users and Computers, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Active Directory Users and Computers.
To open Active Directory Sites and Services, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Active Directory Sites and Services.
Unlinking prevents the Group Policy object from affecting that site, domain, or organizational unit.
