Specify preferred owners of a group

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To specify preferred owners of a group

  1. Open Cluster Administrator.

  2. In the console tree, click the Groups folder.

  3. In the details pane, click the appropriate group.

  4. On the File menu, click Properties.

  5. On the General tab, next to Preferred owners, click Modify.

  6. In the Modify Preferred Owners dialog box, enter any changes you want to make:

    • To add one or more preferred owners, under Available nodes, not Preferred owners, click the nodes you want to add, and then click the right arrow.

    • To remove a preferred owner, under Preferred owners, click the nodes you want to remove, and then click the left arrow.

    • To change the priority of a preferred owner, click the node, and then click the up or down arrow.

Notes

  • To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group might be able to perform this procedure. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.

  • To open Cluster Administrator, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Cluster Administrator.

  • If more than one node is listed under Preferred owners, failover priority is determined by the order of the list. It also controls failback behavior. If failback is enabled, the group will fail back to the highest-priority node that is available. For more information, see "Determining failover policies for groups" in Related Topics.

  • If no preferred owners are specified, failback does not occur.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
