Setting up Remote Desktop Web Connection

Remote Desktop Web Connection is an optional World Wide Web Service component of Internet Information Services, which is included in Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 family operating systems. Remote Desktop Web Connection is not installed by default, but must be installed using Add or Remove programs.

When you install Remote Desktop Web Connection, the files are copied by default to the %systemroot%\Web\Tsweb directory of your web server. The included sample default.htm page can be used as is, or you can modify it to meet the needs of your application.

On the client side, Remote Desktop Web Connection requires that the computer have a TCP/IP connection to the Internet or network, and be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later.

Important

• If you are setting up a Web site for yourself or for some non-Administrator users of a server running one of the Windows Server 2003 family operating systems, you must disable the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration setting for Internet Explorer. Otherwise, all server users, including Administrators, will be prevented from downloading files or ActiveX controls such as Remote Desktop Web Connection from the Web site. To change this setting, use Add/Remove Windows Components in Add or Remove programs. For more information, see Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration.
