Application.Parent Property

Gets or sets the Instance that hosts this application.

Namespace: Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Nmo
Assembly: Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo (in microsoft.sqlserver.smo.dll)

Syntax

'Declaration
Public Property Parent As Instance
public Instance Parent { get; set; }
public:
property Instance^ Parent {
    Instance^ get ();
    void set (Instance^ value);
}
/** @property */
public Instance get_Parent ()

/** @property */
public void set_Parent (Instance value)
public function get Parent () : Instance

public function set Parent (value : Instance)

Property Value

An Instance object. This Instance must match the Instance to which you add the application.

Remarks

Updated text:5 December 2005

Updated sample code:5 December 2005

Each Application has a parent Instance. You typically supply the parent object when you create the Application using the Application(Instance,String) constructor.

If you set the parent in the constructor, do not set the parent using this property. Setting the parent twice throws an exception.

If you use the default constructor, you must set this property and the Name property before you can set other properties.

Example

The following examples show how to set this property when using the default constructor for the Application class:

// Create application and set required properties.
Application myApplication = new Application();
myApplication.Name = applicationName;
myApplication.Parent = myInstance;
myApplication.SchemaName = "dbo";
myApplication.ChronicleQuantumLimit = 1440;
myApplication.SubscriptionQuantumLimit = 30;
myApplication.QuantumDuration = new TimeSpan(0, 1, 0);
myApplication.VacuumRetentionAge = new TimeSpan(7, 0, 0, 0);
myApplication.PerformanceQueryInterval = new TimeSpan(0, 1, 0);
myApplication.ProcessEventsInOrder = false;
myApplication.EventThrottle = 1000;
myApplication.SubscriptionThrottle = 1000;
myApplication.NotificationThrottle = 1000;
myApplication.LogBeforeDeliveryAttempts = false;
myApplication.LogStatusInfo = false;
myApplication.LogNotificationText = false;
myApplication.BaseDirectoryPath = @"C:\NS\Default";
myApplication.ApplicationDefinitionFilePath = @"C:\NS";
' Create application and set required properties.
Dim myApplication As Application = New Application()
myApplication.Name = applicationName
myApplication.Parent = myInstance
myApplication.SchemaName = "dbo"
myApplication.ChronicleQuantumLimit = 1440
myApplication.SubscriptionQuantumLimit = 30
myApplication.QuantumDuration = New TimeSpan(0, 1, 0)
myApplication.VacuumRetentionAge = New TimeSpan(7, 0, 0, 0)
myApplication.PerformanceQueryInterval = New TimeSpan(0, 1, 0)
myApplication.ProcessEventsInOrder = False
myApplication.EventThrottle = 1000
myApplication.SubscriptionThrottle = 1000
myApplication.NotificationThrottle = 1000
myApplication.LogBeforeDeliveryAttempts = False
myApplication.LogStatusInfo = False
myApplication.LogNotificationText = False
myApplication.BaseDirectoryPath = "C:\NS\Default"
myApplication.ApplicationDefinitionFilePath = "C:\NS"
