Identify Fact and Dimension Tables [Tables Tab) (Cube Wizard)

Use the Identify Fact and Dimension Tables page to indicate which tables from the specified data source view to include in the cube and to identify whether a table is to be used as a fact table, a dimension table, or both within the cube. If the Auto build option on the Select Build Method page was selected, the tables will already have recommended types set.

The Tables tab displays the underlying tables in a grid. If you want to see the tables and their relationships displayed in a diagram form instead of a grid, click the Diagram tab.

Note

This page will appear only if you have selected Build the cube using a data source on the Select Build Method page.

Options

  • Time dimension table
Select the table to use as the time dimension table. If there is no time dimension table in the data source view, select <None>.

Tables Tab Options

  • Name
Displays the name of the table.
  • Fact
Indicates whether a table is a fact table.

To indicate that all of the listed tables are fact tables, select the check box in the Fact header.

To indicate that just a particular table is a fact table, select that table's check box in the Fact column.

  • Dimension
Indicates whether a table is a dimension table.

To indicate that all of the tables listed in the grid are dimension tables, select the check box in the Dimension header.

To indicate that just a particular table is a dimension table, select that table's check box in the Dimension column.

Note

You can select both Fact and Dimension for a selected table. Selecting both options indicates that the table is to be used as both a fact table and as a dimension table. If both options are selected, the dimension created from the selected table has a fact dimension relationship to the measure group created from the selected table.
