How to: Browse Cube Data in Cube Designer

You browse the data in a cube or cube perspective by using the Browser view in Cube Designer, which you can access from Business Intelligence Development Studio. For cube data to be displayed in the Browser view, the cube must be in a processed state.

To browse data in a cube

  1. In Solution Explorer, right-click the cube, and then click View Designer.

  2. In Cube Designer, click the Browser tab.

  3. Optionally, in the Perspective drop-down list, choose the perspective whose data you want to view. The default perspective encompasses the whole cube.

  4. Optionally, if your cube includes translations, from the Language drop-down list, choose the language in which you want to display the data. The list displays all of the languages that are supported. However, to see the data, you must choose the language for which a translation has been defined.

  5. In the filter table, click each cell and use the drop-down lists to choose a dimension, hierarchy, operator, and expression to define the slice of the cube or perspective that you want to view. You can add rows to the filter table to further define the data slice. Note that this filter is not part of the Office Web Components filter below it, but it gives you an additional layer of filtering support.

  6. Drag the dimensions, hierarchies, levels, and members from the Metadata pane to the appropriate sections of the data pane:

    • To filter the data that is displayed, drag items to Drop Filter Fields Here.
    • To define columns, drag items to Drop Column Fields Here.
    • To define rows, drag items to Drop Row Fields Here. To view the data, drag a measure to Drop Totals or Detail Fields Here.
  7. Click the triangle to the right of the field name, and then clear the check boxes next to the levels and members that you do not want to display.
