Lesson 4: Formatting a Chart (Report Builder)
In the previous lesson, you ran the chart report to see how the data is displayed. In this lesson, you will format the X- and Y-axes, the chart legend, and the plot area.
To switch to design mode
In Report Builder design mode, click the Design Report button on the Report toolbar.

Alternatively, on the View menu, click Design Report.
To format the X- and Y- axes
With the chart displayed in Report Builder design mode, right-click anywhere on the chart and select Chart Options.
The Chart Options dialog box opens.
Select the Titles tab.
In the Chart title box, type Product Category Sales by Year.
In the Category (X) Axis area, type the following into the Category title box: Product Category.
In the Value (Y) Axis area, type the following into the Value title box: Number of Sales
Click OK.
To format the chart legend
Right-click anywhere on the chart and select Chart Options.
Select the Legend tab.
Click the Position down arrow, and then select Bottom center.
Click the Format button.
The Format dialog box opens with the Font tab selected.
In the Size list, select 8.
Click OK and then click OK again.
To change the background of the plot area
Right-click anywhere on the chart and select Chart Options.
On the Chart Type tab, click Format Plot Area.
Select the Fill tab.
Select Light Ocean.
Click OK and then click OK again.
You have successfully formatted a chart report. To see your formatting changes as they appear in the chart, run the report again.
