Introducing the Visual Studio ALM Rangers – Josh Garverick

This post is part of an ongoing series of Rangers introductions. SeeRanger Index (Who is Who?)for more details.

Who you are?

I am a software architect, engineer, and end-to-end solution enthusiast. I'm currently a software architect at a local consulting firm and am working through getting my MCSD in ALM along with my TOGAF certification.

What makes you “tick”?disney-princes-carouselfie

Within the past couple of years, I've found myself more and more drawn to all things ALM, including trying to figure out how I can build CI/CD environments that target multiple development stacks, for multiple SCMs as well as multiple OSes.  I like tinkering with things like TeamCity, Bamboo, TFS, and Jenkins on my own time.  I like looking at how I could use Docker to set up containerized automated testing with Selenium.  I run OSX on VMWare on my Gen 1 Surface Pro and people think I’m nuts.

Personally I've been married for 15 years, have a five year old daughter who is my world, and enjoy playing bass guitar in a rock band.  I also enjoy brewing beer and playing Cards Against Humanity.  Not sure if that last one is a good thing or not, but it may at least help you understand what type of sense of humor I have.

Where you live?

The best thing to put for where I live is Buffalo, NY as most people outside Western NY can't pronounce Cheektowaga, let alone know where it is.

Why are you active in the Rangers program?

I am active in the ALM Rangers because I am passionate about the toolsets that are available to developers using TFS and other release management options. I'm also very interested in lending any help I can in improving those toolsets.

What is the best Rangers project you worked in and why?

I have yet to work on a Rangers project but look forward to the opportunity!
