Virtual Server Vista Tip

In an earlier post about using Virtual Server on top of Vista - I mentioned that you needed to run Internet Explorer 'As Administrator' in order for the Virtual Server website to work. The problem that you will hit is that the .URL that is used in the Virtual Server start menu cannot be started 'As Administrator'. I have found that if I make a shortcut with the following command (one line):

"C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe" "https://localhost/VirtualServer/vswebapp.exe?view=1"

It will work as a Virtual Server webpage shortcut and it can be started 'As Administrator'. You can configure this shortcut to always run as administrator by selecting the advanced button under the shortcut tab and checking the option to 'Run as administrator'.

Cheers,
Ben

    Hi,
I have followed the steps to install IIS and Virtual Server 2005 R2/SP1 on Vista Beta 2 and created the shortcut as described above. But still I can't access to the Web admin console. I get this error message:

    HTTP Error 401.2 - Unauthorized
Description: You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied, because your Web browser is sending a WWW-Authenticate header field that the Web server is not configured to accept.
    Error Code: 0x80070005
    Notification: AuthenticateRequest

    Any idea to fix it?
    Thanks
    /Dung

Grant admin previlages for the user and enable "automatic logon with current user name and password" in IE security settings to launch the web admin console.
