Is your department brimming with innovative ideas?
Today sees the launch of the new Microsoft and LGC competition – Innovate08 – which is supported by our partners, Socitm and the IDeA, and aims to promote and develop ground-breaking ideas in local government.
We are looking for local authority teams whose innovative ideas can help to address some of the biggest issues that councils face today. These ideas may have a technology element to them, but we are really looking for solutions that demonstrate how local government is at the heart of innovation in the UK public sector.
Councils can submit their ideas in one or more of the following categories, and may make as many submissions as they like:
- Environment
- Community engagement
- Social inclusion
- Place-shaping
In return for entering, LGC and Microsoft will work with the teams that have the most inspirational ideas and provide a mentor to help develop their concepts. The mentoring sessions will be then be followed by a judging day on 8 September 2008. But it doesn’t end there.
We want to make sure that all local government departments can learn from the innovators, so the winning team will spend two days with a team from Microsoft to prepare a potential implementation and roll-out plan. You never know, Innovate08 may just produce the next technology solution that could help the whole of local government.
Competition entries close on 24 July 2008 and finalists will be announced in early August. The mentoring days will take place throughout August, before the final judging day on 8 September.
We are looking for entries from parish councils to county councils. It is the innovation and community benefit that will make your idea stand out as a potential winner.
You can email us with any questions you have about how to get involved or visit the LGC website for further information on the competition and entry conditions.
