Cloud Computing – CSC Deploys Microsoft Cloud for State of California

First New York, now California.  Microsoft partner CSC has recently announced that the State of California has awarded the company a contract to migrate its current multiple e-mail applications to a cloud-based solution with Microsoft Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS), recently re-branded as Microsoft Office 365.

 Work under this contract supports Governor Schwarzenegger's executive order and the state's efforts to improve information technology (IT) infrastructure, increase government efficiency, save costs and consolidate IT functions.

CSC will provide Microsoft Cloud Services in a secure cloud environment offering comprehensive e-mail and legal eDiscovery services and collaboration tools for mobile users. CSC will also provide migration services to the new cloud solution and will standardise e-mail across all state agencies that select the service, potentially eliminating up to 130 e-mail systems that currently utilise three different e-mail platforms.

The Microsoft Cloud Services will improve data security, simplify e-mail administration, enhance agency collaboration and improve responsiveness to public information requests.

The decisions by New York City and the State of California are clear indicators that cloud solutions for productivity are crossing the chasm from early-adopter to mainstream and can successfully address requirements for stringent security and availability and deliver flexibility of access for mobile and office-based users.
