Time Warp

Well, I'm finally home. If you are following the Flight Simulator saga you've probably guessed why I was in Las Vegas. <g> Sorry to have to be so "cloak and dagger" about it but company secrets are company secrets! I had hoped to blog throughout the week but for a variety of reasons that wasn't possible. To make it up I'm thinking of writing up a retrospective, "behind the scenes" report of the Bill Gates keynote and other activities. But that will be a bunch of effort so post a comment or send me mail if you're interested in hearing what went on. I won't waste my time if no one cares. In the meantime I'll be back in the office tomorrow and maybe there will be more cool Flight Simulator X stuff I can talk about.

I´m interested, specially about how Bill Gates sees the FS franchise. I don´t know if you can talk about this! With all the fuss going around FS X I bet hundreds of people are interested in anything related to FS or the team behind the sim.

I check your blog and your partners´ blogs almost everyday searching for new info about the next version.

By the way, the new FS seems terrific. Can´t wait for more info about features!

    Hi Mike,

First off, thanks to you and your team for the real sense of openness and communication regarding Flight Simulator. I'm a long time FS user and have spent quite a few years at Avsim and elsewhere participating in the never-ending banter on what FS should/shouldn't be. IMHO you folks have done a masterful job of coming up with a product that does the best job I've seen yet of satisfying the broadest spectrum of users. There's basic simplicity for the user that just wants to hand fly and doesn't much care about technical things as well as detailed features that, when manipulated by some very accomplished add-on developers, produce capabilities attractive to and appreciated by those of us more interested in "real as it gets' simulation. I am confident this will continue with FSX! I, for one, will be eagerly awaiting my copy on day one!

I'd also be interested in your "retrospective" provided, of course, that it addresses situations you encountered concerning the FSX announcement.

Again, thanks to you and the team for setting what to me has been a new standard of openness between the development and user communities... it is most welcome and immensely refreshing! I look very forward to each and every tidbit of news that will be released in the coming days.

Mike - add me to the list. I think there's heaps of interest in a behind the scene's article on the keynote.

'Behind the scenes' type articles or videos are very popular. Peter Jackson's weekly production diary and post production diary videos on the King Kong movie were enormously popular. OK Flight Simulator is not King Kong and weekly production diaries are probably not very practical for you, but regular [once a month?]'behind the scenes' video updates hosted on FSInsider or MSDN would be very popular.

Thanks for all the info so far. The screen shots of FS X look fantastic. I greatly enjoyed the videos of yourself and Chris on Gamespot.

Why do some of the screenshots say "Flight Simulator 2004" -- is the project that late?
