A DICE-y Speach
The D.I.C.E. conference was held last week in Las Vegas. Aimed primarily at game designers, this is where folks in the game industry gather to talk shop and hear the latest buzz. Peter Moore, Microsoft's Corporate VP of Interactive Entertainment (I think he's my boss' boss' boss' boss' boss' boss) gave a speech that talked about the PC gaming ecosystem and how we (Microsoft) need to lead with great platforms (Vista/Xbox), tools (XNA), and, yes, games. His speech even featured a shout-out to Flight Simulator, including a peek at what it might look like running under DirectX 10. It looks pretty sweet. Gamespy describes it here.

The Gamespot articles mentions this:-
Beyond that, Moore touched briefly on Microsoft's efforts to get better PC development tools in the hands of programmers. Specifically he showed off the features of the upcoming D3D 10 technology, using screenshots of the next Microsoft Flight Simulator. Detailed grass, whitecapped waves atop rolling water, and subtle rays of sunshine through clouds and haze were a few of the features developers can expect to place into their games with ease.
OMG... so FSX under directx 10 will support those things! Outstanding!!! - Anonymous

Hey Mike,
Have you received any DX10 hardware from the manufacturers yet? I know that was one of the hangups for you guys.
Really excited about the possibilities of DX10... wind capped waves and moving water! Going to be a good time to go back into rebuilding our carriers for FSX!
If not then let us know so we can start a write-in campaign to ATI and Nvidia. :^) - Anonymous
