It's true - Virtual Server 2005 R2 IS now available as a free download!

Click here to read devcenter.com's post announcing that Microsoft's Virtual Server 2005 R2 is now available as a free download.

There's more information available on the Microsoft Virtual Server website. For more information about Virtual Server 2005 then it's worth taking a moment to read Eric Lam's post. There's an interesting post about the future of virtualisation on the Process64 blog

I've seen customers large and small embrace Virtual Server to simplify their hardware environment for production systems and reduce the complexity of their development, test and demonstration systems.

If you're new to Virtualisation then just think of a piece of software that enables you to run multiple operating system instances on a single physical computer system.

On my tablet PC (running Windows Xp Service Pack 2) I run Virtual PC to host up to four concurrent virtual machines namely three instances of Windows Server 2003 and one Windows XP - my machine has 2Gb RAM and I use highly optimised VMs though it works really well.
