Tafiti - a new search experience with Silverlight and Live Search
Earlier Today Microsoft launched Tafiti (which means do "do research" in Swahili) which shows how Web applications such as search can be brought to the next level using Silverlight.
Tafiti is essentially a Silverlight interface to Live Search and helps people search the Web by helping them visualize (using Silverlight), share and store search results across multiple searches and sessions. For example, you can view results according to category such as Books, Images, News, even RSS feeds and drag your chosen results to a shelf where you can label them. Subsequent searches are "piled" note-style on the left for easy access.
Here's what you need to do to take it for a spin:
· Go to https://www.tafiti.com
· Enter a search query
· Drag interesting results to the shelf on the right. Each box on the shelf can be used to save a related set of results. Shelf contents can be saved and shared.
· Use the carousel at the bottom left to do different types of searches (image, blog, etc.)
· Visualize your results using the Tafiti Tree View.
You can find a podcast on Channel 9 and a video on on10.net.
But before you take a look there, have a look at the walkthrough video below, which is hosted in Silverlight streaming. Pretty neat, no?
