Making a blog better

girl listening A lot has happened since I wrote my first post on OfficeRocker! two years ago.  I started blogging in the year preceding the launch of Office 2007 as a way to engage better with people and to explain what we are doing.  (see why I blog).

I did a little talk this afternoon for mad.co.uk at the Social Media for Business conference (sorry their site has no direct link) on the subject of corporate blogging.  I was just sharing some simple learnings from our journey at Microsoft. It got me thinking that it is time to review how I'm doing and here's where I'd love to get your thoughts, dear reader.

First on the aesthetics - I've improved the general look of the site recently which seems to have increased traffic to it.  I currently have a twitter thing on there because I'm experimenting with micro-blogging and we'll see if that stays.  I tried to make the site easier to navigate with a cleaner more polished look.  What's missing?

I'm keen to do all I can to engender dialogue so I put the talk back microphone on there to make it easier for you to get in touch.  that seems to work too because i get more emails and suggestions for posts than before.  I'd like more though.

The best posts are still the demos and those that were in response to something a reader said or commented.  comments are the lifeblood of a blog.

From here I'm still going to write about Microsoft Office but I'm also writing around that subject a bit more. I've decided to write a little more broadly but still orbit around Office as my core theme.  I'm writing more short posts too, without getting into "me too" posts as well as longer opinion pieces.

Areas I'm considering doing more posts on:

  • More demos - short little how-to clips of handy tips
  • Microsoft culture - what makes us tick as an organisation and how we use technology to get stuff done
  • The rise of millenials and how this is affecting the future of the workplace
  • Silly things that make me laugh
  • More posts for home users rather than corporates
  • Convergence - where technology silos colide

Any of the above hitting the mark?  It would be great if you can comment on what you find interesting or if you're shy, send me an email.  If you've read my blog for a while and I have helped or amused, can I cash in my credits and get you to feedback?  Even if you just say hi and tell me a bit about yourself and why you are still reading.

thanks for all the support over the last two years!
