Dump your stress this Easter

I just can't stop telling you about OneNote. It's like we've found our first love again since 2007 beta 1.
It's a public holiday here in the UK today and Monday so here's my Easter stress remedy for time-compressed hours in 4-day weeks..

At the beginning or end of the day (or both) try this:

  • open a OneNote page
  • force yourself to sit there for 15 minutes while you dump everything in your mental todo list onto the page
    • keep going
    • don't stop and don't worry about duplicates
    • don't let yourself get distracted into doing some of them
    • 5 minutes to go
    • OK finished? well done - everything is on the page, you can exhale now
  • Drag text around and start grouping them on the page
    • tip: hold down the Alt key as you drag and drop to join sections up on the page
  • Now your worry list is organised into groups
  • turn each line into an action if appropriate, flag it for follow up (I just click the button for today every time)
  • switch to Outlook (all your tasks will be synched there) and in the to-do bar make sure you've not got any duplicates
  • set the correct follow up time (today, tomorrow, next week etc) for each one
  • switch to calendar week view and drag items off the to-do bar onto the calendar to block out sufficient time to do each task
  • now you can relax knowing its all in hand and you can go off and have a nice weekend/evening

Try it - I bet you will be less stressed out if you do..

Another top tip - in a meeting, click the "notes about this item" from calendar and add all your notes and flag actions as you go along. At the end of a meeting where you've whiteboarded some stuff, take a photo with your smartphone and later paste it onto the page. You can share it with others easily too either via email or shared notebooks. And with OneNote mobile this will get even easier.

Happy Easter everyone!

I have a HP TC 4200 Tablet PC and I use Office OneNote 2003 daily and it's a fantastic application!

When that is said, I was wondering about one thing with Outlook 2007. When you start using RSS feeds within Outlook, you can decide if you want to keep the list synced with Internet Explorer 7's list. My issue now, is the read/unread state on feed items. These does not seem to be in sync with the IE7 feed store and Outlook 2007.

And what about reading IE7's feed list in the RSS Feeds when connected to Microsoft Exchange Server? I only get the feeds in the local .pst folder.

This is a great concept, but I've struggled to get it to work for me.  When I switch from Onenote to Outlook (in BTR1) I found I'm faced with a long list of tasks that all have exactly the same subject - its something along the lines of [click to switch to onenote].

Wouldn't it be better to copy over the text next to the flag from Onenote to Outlook?

Scoobie can you email me a screenshot and detailed steps to repro please?  sounds like a bug to me.  My blogcast on OneNote shows this working for me fine.  cheers.

Sondre, I only have ie7 on my Vista machine and I know there is an option to sync the rss feeds between Outlook and ie but last time I checked I also get some issues with unread counts.  However my network was having issues that day so I need to fix that to isolate.  If I find out anything I'll post.

Hey Darren, stop having such a long (and probably great) Easter break.  We want to see some more blogs and demo's. ;)

Darren,  I saw your demo of Office 2007 at TVP yesterday evening and like you had fallen in love and out of love with One Note.  Seeing the demo has made the case for me making to leap to Office 2007 on my main desktop.

By the way great demo,  and hope you solved you Dad's techy problem ;)
