Ramping up on the job: Training

Ah, training.  Formal training can be more or less helpful depending on the training and role.  For my role, I have various online trainings "due" throughout the year.  I spent part of my first week back catching up on these and getting ahead so that I could focus on my ramp up.  If I had been new to the company, I would have had a lot more training to catch up on. (I also would have had a lot more to learn... from things like benefits to how to book travel and various policies.)

The best training I've taken for my current role was actually a Marketing training from the Kellogg School from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.  They have a book that I haven't read but appears to have pretty good Amazon reviews.  Might be worth picking up.

I'm actually really bad at taking technical training.  I'm much better at teaching myself with some instruction than sitting in a classroom for hours or learning from an online technology training.  I much prefer the hands-on lab approach.

One of the most popular trainings on our team has been the Intro to Web Design using Microsoft Expression.  What good trainings have you found?
